Our Saturday started off in a very festive way…and of course, since I live in Indiana, with sprinkles. The Indianapolis Museum of Art held a volunteer appreciation brunch to thank all of their volunteers. It was fun with great food (have you ever had cherry stuffed french toast with ginger orange syrup? Yumm-O!) and we sat a table with dog lovers so we had a great time swapping stories.

I worked on a painting off and on all day yesterday but had a total failure. I used my 6″ X 6″ block of Fluid paper like I usually do with lots of water and wet-in-wet work. I had also used some masking fluid and when I removed it it pulled up the surface of the paper in BIG sections. I have had this happen twice before in small sections and have been able to fix it but not this time. Anyway, I will continue to experiment.

Next week I am entering my first competitive show for the year. It is at the Southside Art League of Indianapolis (SALI). I am entering a painting I completed last summer called Sun Dappled Geraniums. I always like to support the organizations I belong to by entering their shows even if I’m outclassed by the serious professional artists in the group. I love any feedback I get and  sorry for the blurry photo!

Last Wednesday night Ken and I attended the Holiday Celebration held by the Southside Art League of Indianapolis (SALI). Great food, absolutely wonderful and frequently hilarious conversation and an artist art swap. We were all supposed to bring a 5″ X 7″ unframed piece of art. Each artist selected a wrapped artwork and I was very pleased with the artwork I selected. It is titled Three Red Tulips and is an 8″ X 10″ oil painting by Stanley Austin. Stan said this is the only floral he has ever painted so I was surprised it found its way to me. I hope you enjoy his beautiful painting as much as I have. I think I may try it in watercolor – simple, soft and cropped close. Thank you, Stan!

National Abstract Show - White Light

I finally found time to visit the National Abstract Show that my paintings are in. The winners of the competition were primarily abstract expressionism but there were many different painting styles represented in the show.  The show had over 130 paintings entered from 17 states and around 50 paintings were juried into the show. The show closes this weekend and it was a huge honor for me to have two paintings accepted.

The show is displayed in the Garfield Park Arts Center. This is a historic building with lots of space that is used for classes and to support all types of art and art groups. The competition is organizaed and managed by the Southside Art League of Indianapolis.
