When painting this I was thinking about the trauma-filled, scorched earth nature of Chemo. The painting is done on a small, roughly 8″ X 10″, sheet of Arches. I think it is interesting that you can see the small “pools” of color covering the Arches CP surface. It is much less absorbant than the other papers I’ve been using. I am learning so much by using all the different papers that were given to me recently.  Definitely makes a huge difference in the technique needed and the look you can achieve. But then you all probably knew that!

I love those murky muted colors, Linda! Soft and mysterious.

  2. This is a really nice work. my style.

Do you use masking fluid to get the whites? The painting conveys a great heaviness in feelings.

    • I put down color (using various techniques) and then use masking fluid. For some reason my camera and software seem to lose most of the color in the “white” areas. Almost all of my paintings have more color and texture than you see in the photos.
