Yesterday was devoted to a bridal shower for my grandson and his fiance. Alex is a PFC in the US Army –  Infantry (his choice). They are getting married on May 1 and they leave for Europe on May 4. He is planned for deployment to Afghanistan in August so each of these events is very meaningful. It was a lovely day.

I found out yesterday morning that my painting “Garden Stairs” won third place in the Student Show held by the Southside Art League of Indianapolis. I painted this last fall in Irina’s (remember Irina?) intermediate watercolor class. During these classes there are no demos. Each student paints their own composition and Irina walks around providing critiques. For this painting she was very helpful when discussing the value scheme. I wanted to share the painting with you.

The Garden Stair

The composition was developed from a photo of a stairway on a calendar and several photos I took of the gardens at the West Baden Springs Resort near French Lick, Indiana. It is painted on 140# CP Arches paper with transparent watercolor.
